Garth Tander and the Toll Holden Racing Team have won Race 2 for the BRC IMPCO V8 Supercar Challenge at the Qantas Australian Grand Prix event in Melbourne today.
Starting from the front row, Tander quickly jumped into the lead and never looked back in the 13 lap race, despite the tricky conditions with intermittent rain falling around the circuit.
Tander’s win made amends for yesterday’s race when a gearbox issue cost him and the Toll HRT victory.
Team-mate Will Davison continued his improvement, moving from tenth to sixth, the reigning Barry Sheene Medalist pleased with the progress he made after a difficult start to the season.
Jamie Whincup finished second to give Holden a 1, 2, with yesterday’s winner, James Courtney, third.
Tander now leads the points after two of the three races for the BRC IMPCO V8 Supercar Challenge, which finishes with Race 3 tomorrow, beginning at 2.20pm. Channel 10 and One HD will provide live coverage – check your local guides for full details.
Garth Tander, #2 Toll Holden Racing Team Holden Commodore VE:
“It was a hard race with the rain coming down, every lap you never knew how deep to brake because whether it was raining more or not. It’s hard to run at the front like that because you’re the pioneer finding the grip level. It was good to get that one back, we should have got yesterday’s one as well, so I’m happy with [today’s win]. It will be nice to have a dry, clean race tomorrow. For us [this weekend] is all about keeping the momentum going and developing the car along the way.”
Will Davison, #22 Toll Holden Racing Team Holden Commodore VE
“I really enjoyed the race again today. We’re chipping away in the right direction with my Toll HRT Commodore, which is encouraging. We’ve definitely improved the outright speed of my car, but we still need to fine tune the tyre life. We had good speed early, but couldn’t hang onto the tyres. I’m looking forward to definitely getting into the top five tomorrow.”
